Before you reach the gates
Terminal F security hours and TSA PreCheck
PHL currently lists Terminal F’s standard security checkpoint hours as 4:30 a.m.–9:15 p.m. Hours can change, so check the airport’s official checkpoint schedule ↗ (opens in a new tab) before traveling.
Do not assume Terminal F has a dedicated TSA PreCheck lane. PHL lists PreCheck at A-West 1, A-East, C, and D/E. Terminal C is PreCheck-only. If you choose another checkpoint, account for the transfer to F and use an eligible, open lane.
Once screened, passengers can walk between terminals without leaving the secure area. Checkpoint opening hours are not an estimate of how long the line will take.
How early should you arrive?
PHL recommends arriving at least two hours before a domestic departure and three hours before an international departure. Add time for parking and ground transportation so those steps do not consume your terminal arrival buffer. Follow your airline’s check-in and bag-drop deadlines. Should I walk or take the terminal shuttle?
Compare your gate locations on the official airport map, then consider luggage, mobility, and the shuttle queue. Neither option is always faster. Ask airport staff for help when the connection is tight.
Will I need to go through security again?
A connection that stays inside the secure area ordinarily avoids another checkpoint. After leaving customs for a connecting flight, you must be screened again. Leaving the secure area for another reason also requires screening to return.
What if my flights are on separate tickets?
Ask the airline whether checked bags will be transferred. You may need to collect and recheck them, then clear security. Build the itinerary around those requirements rather than the gate-to-gate travel alone.

Choose somewhere close to your gate when boarding is approaching. Opening hours, menus, and queues vary; early or late flights may have fewer choices.
After landing
Baggage claim and ground transportation
If PHL is your final stop, follow baggage-claim signs and confirm your carousel on the arrival displays. For any bag collected at the aircraft rather than the carousel, follow the crew’s instructions.
After collecting your luggage, choose the signed pickup area for your service. Rental-car shuttles, rideshare pickups, taxis, and parking shuttles use different arrangements. Confirm the meeting point with your provider instead of assuming every shuttle stops in the same place.
